Drill more or Alternatives fuels?

With the gas prices sky high now, the debate is on as to whether we should drill all over the place for more oil to suck down, or start implementing some new, clean technology.

What do you think and why?

I personally think that as much oil as americans suck down in just a few months, any drilling would just be a short term dead end to put yet even more money in the oil companies pockets.

We have things like Hydrogen, solar/electric, wind and others at our disposal, and I'd love to use any one of those in a car

Drilling for more oil will only lead us further down the wrong path. America is addicted to fossil fuels. George Bush said that himself in his 2006 State of the Union address. Now he believes that drilling for more oil will solve our oil addiction. It won't even be a temporary solution. Gas companies will continue to charge high prices simply because they can. They want to milk the industry as much as they can and as long as they can before our fuel supply runs out.



Alternative fuels can and should supply the energy that we would otherwise gain from drilling offshores or on leased land. The only limiting factors for alternative energy sources are convenience and accessibility, and those limitations are greatly exaggerated. Anyone can buy a hybrid, and save money in the end by doing so. Most people have access to solar power in their area. Others also have access to wind and hydroelectric power. All it takes is a bit of research, maybe a half hour or an hour, to find a cleaner energy provider or a greener car. There's really no excuse.

Both. Drill more, we still need oil for other things like plastics and lubricants. We have the oil, but politicians and special interest groups have gotten in the way and have ruined this country's sovereignty, and economy. We would have been a lot better off if we had built more oil refineries and more nuke plants. But we didn't. We don't have nuclear energy because of superstitions brought on by Hollywood movies made 30 years ago.



Hydrogen and solar are great, but they are not in production and the two or three hydrogen filling stations in the country aren't going to cut it either.



Whatever energy we use and come up with, that company is going to make a lot of money. It makes no difference whether it's "big oil" or "big hydrogen."

We cannot solve our oil crisis and our climate crisis by drilling for more oil! You cant douse a fire by adding to the fire! The best thing for everyone to do is to take advantage of currently available renewable resources such as: solar, wind, hydroelectricity, geothermal, tidal power, nuclear, etc., also conserve power in your own home by making simple, inexpensive changes in your everyday life (go to think.mtv.com, climate crisis.org, and a host of other great sites to get a large comprehensive list of money and energy saved outlined with all of the green suggestions). We should also try to improve efficiency with the vehicles we do have and work towards getting new vehicles that don't require gas at affordable prices with the same reliability and power as the best gas cars (believe it or not they exist, and most don't look like cracker jack toys anymore!). We have heard it all before, but we actually do posses all the necessary technology stock shelved to effectively move away from fossil fuels, reduce or carbon footprint and clean up our environment, and build a stronger "less depended on other nations resources" economy simultaneously! All that being said, the change starts with you, then your family, your neighborhood, next your community, your city, then your state, the country, and finally the WORLD!!!!! So stop saying we can't, or complaining and start doing!!!!

There is no point in increasing our oil drilling at this point. It won't result in any more oil production for at least 7 years, and will only decrease the price of gasoline for a few cents. It's a red herring. There's a limit to the amount of oil available, and countries like China and India are making demand skyrocket.



We need to become more efficient and convert to alternative fuels like electric cars. That's the only solution to high gas prices.

Oil will run out eventually. I bought 2 cars that run on natural gas (methane), and they're super cheap to fill up ($10 in Utah) plus they run way cleaner than any gasoline car. These cars exist already, the carmakers know how to make them (Ford made mine), and they're great! I feel so much better driving down the road knowing I'm not using one drop of foreign oil or gasoline, and I wish everybody else would, too. So, don't let anybody tell you that oil is the only answer. They're just being lazy. Check out my sources to learn more about natural gas.

These alternative fuels have not been used, because they're too expensive. If you like 4$ gasoline, your'e going to love the price of electricity, if it's not produced by low-cost methods like coal or nuclear. Unless you're very wealthy, get used to bicycling. Just don't obstruct energy production, in the belief we'll all be driving hydrogen cars soon - this link explains the inefficiencies of electric and hydrogen vehicles

Hydrogen and electric cars are part of the global warming scam- make people think there's a realistic alternative, so that global warming laws can be passed. I think we should be conserving our fuels. Speed limit reductions would do a lot of good. I get around by bicycle, as much as possible. but let's not outlaw coal, or producing oil in america - only the rich will drive.

as for global warming ; notice that clear nights cool off rapidly, cloudy or humid nights do not. water vapor is 95% of the greenhouse effect. It is important to realise that global warming will be the most expensive baloney we ever buy. I'm retired, and get around by bicycle- it'll mostly be tough on people who want a job and car.

you are right in a sense. we could start drilling. the problem is we would not have the oil to use for many years. instead of spending the ton of money to drill and build refineries. we could instead advane some solar tech and start making electric cars. i dont buy hydrogen, too dangerous and just not practicle for the real world use. mabye for power plants but not for a home car.

We need both. And also nuclear, solar, wind, and anything else we can come up with. No one source will be enough for the insatiable demand for energy of modern society. My opinion is that we will always be short of energy no matter what we do until, or if, we develop nuclear fusion. Fusion is powerful enough and the fuel is in plentiful enough supply to pretty much solve all energy problems for good.

Some of each. Personally, I think our main emphasis should be on personal and individual conservation. We should learn not to be so wasteful and just stay home, once in awhile.



If the demand is not so high, we can ease up on raping the planet.
