Is adding a Hydrogen generator to my vehicle beneficial?

I see a lot of information - makes sense to me, but is it just a lot of snake oil in a different package. I plan to experiment, but value others' advice and observations.

It is and it isn't. First it is moderately dangerous. There are companies that have developed such devices to improve gas millage. They tell of their earlier experiments where the device exploded and sent a disk flying 80 feet in the air.



If you can't find someone actually selling a well tested device, go for it. Adding a tiny bit of hydrogen gas to the mix will increase the amount of fuel being exploded, just like the laughing gas some enthusiasts like to inject in some engines. I'm sure you have seen the movies were the driver presses a button and the car moves forward much faster for a small amount of time. That is a real effect, but limited to dangerous and general not allowed small amounts of compressed cans that you can carry on the vehicle. Hydrogen can do the same if you can find a safe way to make hydrogen from water efficiently. Otherwise the energy involved simply won't make it worth it.



A couple years ago a few companies in canada were fighting in court over the patent rights to such a device that did a good job increasing gas mileage. I haven't heard anything since. I have no idea if it ever has entered into the marketplace.

You have not given nearly enough detail in your question for me to answer intelligently. How does the hydrogen generator work? How will the car use the hydrogen generated? Regular engines can be made to run on pure hydrogen gas with modifications, but I never heard of anyone running an engine on a mixture of hydrogen and gasoline. Is that what you are proposing to do? If so, how much hydrogen is being added? 1% hydrogen and 99% gasoline or 99% hydrogen and 1% gasoline? This is a complex problem that needs many pages of writing or a back and forth discussion to resolve.

Nothing has yet to break the law of the Conservation of Energy. If you add a generator to car to suck power out of its motion and make electricity, it will slow down. That is what regenerative breaking is. The best you can do is shuffle the energy around, and at the end of the day, most of the energy in running a car goes to heat and moving the air over the vehicle. Tesla's work was classified because he found ways of killing people on a mass scale, and destroying the ecosystem too, but that is a whole other matter.

I believe you are referring to an Oxy-Hydrogen generator as this is the only thing that you can actually add to a vehicle that will produce on the fly.



The way the oxy-hydrogen generator works, is it uses about 5-10 amps from your cars alternator to charge a mixture of Lye (KOH) and distilled water. This separates the hydrogen from the oxygen in the water and the hydrogen rises to the top and re-combines with oxygen creating oxy-hydrogen.



This is then fed into your air filter (after the filter) and into your combustion chamber whgere it mixes with the fuel and air and combust. Since hydrogen burns a little hotter this will give a little horsepower boost and you will get better gas mileage while reducing harmful emissions.



I have one on my Scion TC 2006 and it works just fine.

If you are talking about a total hydrogen switch check out united nuclear, they make a system that can turn any late model vehicle into a hydrogen hybrid. They have a reall cool way of storing it: instead of having liquid hydrogen compressed, they use a dry storage chemical. The hydrogen combines witht he chemical and can be stored dry and not underpreasure until it is used.

Still in the building stages, a friend of mine has added a Hydrogen generater to his vehicle. He now makes 46 miles to the gallon, a simple 25% fuel savings that ran him just over $200. It is said, that 100% can be used on the second added link, but I have not proven this yet. Our tests still continue for better savings.

On the contrary of other gases, hydrogen is from the very few which heats up by expanding.

A minor leak in an hydrogen circuit with an overpressure of 0,040 bar... and you have the wave speed sufficient for its SELF IGNITION... NO SPARK NEEDED !!! And I do not mention the flame´s speed.

And hydrogen atoms are so small that you will not be able to have something not letting some out.

The alternator will take more energy to make the electricity to split the water to make the hydrogen. So no don't plan on having any wonderful results. If you made a switch and only turned it on when you hit the brakes, then it would be okay, but then you'd probably use more energy lugging it around than you'd get from the 1 minute of total braking you do each day.



You can not create "free" energy. You can not get more energy by combusting hydrogen, that it cost you to "produce" it.

I live in the middle of Arizonas desert, and I dream of a solar sterlig steam generator, with foldable, telescoping mirrors, on the roof of my off road dune buggy, plus the skin of the roof itself is made from carbonfiber photovoltaic cells. Even the frame might have pv cells built in to collect extra power. Maybe the foldable solar collector could turn into a windmill that turns as you drive it putting more power back into battery pack. I think that would look cool. Like something you'd see the tank girl driving, he,heh!!

If it actually worked, auto manufacturers would be all over it.

Lump the hydrogen generator in the same category as the magnetic fuel mixer, the turbine intake insert, and the adding of acetone to your fuel.

i would not experiment with a hydrogen generator if i where u, its dangerous and not worth while, better to use vegie oil as fuel or make and engery conferter when u want to brake

If you want better fuel economy, get a diesel or hybrid.



If you want cheaper fuel, convert your diesel to run WVO.



If you want MUCH cheaper fuel, convert a car to electric/series hybrid.
